this is your time to investigate yourselves through simple exercises and some pretty bomb music. we will jam out. we will get specific. we will get simple.

making orange juice is an experience that you will truly appreciate as you continue on in life whether you continue in the arts-dancing, acting, painting, or if you decide to pursue other interests. this is the time you will take to explore who you are right now.

Featured dance class of the week: Hip Hop with the Get Down Gang!

The Get Down Gang was formed in early 2010 in Pittsburgh, PA, though about half of its members are from other cities. GDG is a street dance/hip hop elements crew consisting primarily of bboys/girls, with a few poppers and Djs. GDG has represented across the world in battles and cyphers, while also doing many performances and shows here in PA. Each individual member of GDG brings a different experience and history to the crew. Many of the members practice multiple dance forms such as locking and house. GDG consist of bboys Stealth-1, KDZ, D-Smiles, BDC, Warren, Prabu, and bgirl Teena Marie; poppers Mr. Street, Pyurtek, and Limz; and Dj Selecta and musical artist Gene Stovall.

Each week a different member of the crew teaches class at the Alloy Studios. Come on down for this beginner-friendly, high-energy hour of dancing! Whether learning to pop or perfecting your bboy/girl moves, you’ll leave with a smile on your face. The crew members join in, and all the moves are broken down, explained, and built upon.

Classes are at 5:30 pm on Thursdays, and cost $15. Or, buy a 6-class card for $75 and come back a few weeks in a row! All classes are held at The Alloy Studios, located at 5530 Penn Avenue.

KST is excited to hear that Man Mans’ Christopher ‘Pow Pow’ Powell (far right) is collaborating with Kate Watson-Wallace on the music of her work-in progress, Mash Up Body, premiering at KST in Spring 2013. Pow Pow will be sharing info along with Watson-Wallace and her mentor Miguel Gutierrez at the artist talk tonight.

Tickets are $10.
